Castro Statement Welcoming South Korean President Moon Jae-in to the United States

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, issued the following statement on the occasion of the Republic of Korea’s President Moon Jae-in’s visit to the United States:

“I welcome President Moon to the United States as he visits Washington D.C. this week. The Republic of Korea is one of the United States’ closest allies in Asia. For more than 60 years, our nations have benefitted from a strategic and economic relationship underpinned by shared values of democracy, human rights, and open markets.

“President Moon’s meetings with American leaders come at a time when the U.S.-Korean relationship faces new challenges, including North Korea’s accelerated effort to develop nuclear weapons. I look forward to greater cooperation between our two countries as we confront threats to regional stability and seek to generate greater economic prosperity.”
