Castro Statement on Trump's Refusal to Release Democratic Memo

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, today made the following statement in response to the President’s decision to not release the Democratic memo:

“I originally opposed the release of any memo without the underlying source material that would provide the American public information needed to make their own independent judgements. The Nunes memo released by the President is a political document wrought with inaccuracies and tries to discredit the Justice Department and our Intelligence Community. The Democratic memo, that the House Intelligence Committee unanimously agreed to declassify earlier this week, corrects the record and restores credibility to these key national security agencies. The President should allow the public to see this memo. Blocking its release, and not the Republican one, is clearly a partisan move to muddy the facts, deceive the American public, and distract from Special Counsel Mueller's Russia investigation.

"We must continue to call out the Trump Administration's attempt to sell out American democracy and focus our attention on following the facts in investigating Russia's interference in our 2016 election."
