Castro Statement on the Release of Majority’s Russia Report
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, today released the following report:
“The House Intelligence Committee Republican’s report released today indicates the premature closing of the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential elections. Throughout our Committee’s investigation, the Majority took a ‘hear no evil, see no evil’ approach that turned a blind eye to key leads and failed to follow specific evidence of collusion. Committee Democrats released a Minority Views report today that highlights some unclassified information and transcripts from our Committee interviews with key witnesses that shows evidence of collusion. This is by no means a substitute for our final report, but we had to correct the record on misleading insinuations that protect the President and his campaign.
“Committee Republicans are concealing and misrepresenting what took place in meetings between key Trump campaign officials and Russian operatives, short-changing the American people of the truth. That’s why this week, House Democrats interviewed Cambridge Analytica’s Christopher Wylie. This is just the beginning of our work that will continue, and we will utilize every means at our disposal to conduct meaningful oversight on behalf of our constituents and protect U.S. election infrastructure, national security and democracy from Russian manipulation.”
