Castro Statement on USMCA Agreement

WASHINGTON—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Vice Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and member of the House Intelligence and Education and Labor Committees, today released the following statement on the USMCA Trade agreement:

“Congress has negotiated and secured meaningful changes to the USMCA Trade Agreement that will bolster America’s economy, support workers, protect the environment, and improve access to affordable prescription drugs. This agreement proves that we can achieve a principled and pragmatic agreement between labor and business that reflects our core American values.

“We are working tirelessly to strengthen the U.S. economy, empower American businesses, and lift up America’s families. This revised agreement serves as a beacon for workers, patients, and the environment, and sets the gold standard for future U.S. trade agreements.

“As the 10th largest economy in the world and an international trade hub, Texas is the nation’s number one exporter, accounting for almost 20% of the nation’s trade. This agreement supports all the many dimensions of Texas and San Antonio’s economy, from manufacturing to agriculture to e-commerce to cybersecurity. This modernized trade policy not only benefits the Texas workers of today, but sets the stage for a more collaborative, efficient, and global America for future generations to come.”
