Castro Statement on House Passage of H.R.3

WASHINGTON—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Vice Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and member of the House Intelligence Committee and of the Education and Labor Committees, today released the following statement on the passage of H.R.3, the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act:

“Today’s passage of H.R. 3 is a necessary and long overdue step forward on lower prescription drug costs and access to critical medicine for all Americans. Working families should never have to decide between lifesaving treatment and paying their bills.

“I know folks in Texas and throughout the country have been riddled with overwhelming prescription drug costs, often paying outrageous prices for treatments they need to stay alive and resorting to desperate measures when ends don’t meet. Affordable healthcare is not a privilege, but a right, and in passing this commonsense legislation, the U.S. House of Representatives has taken an important step to lift this burden off working families and fulfill our promise to earnestly fight for the dignity and security of all Americans.

“I urge my colleagues in the Senate to prioritize their commitment to the American people and pass this legislation swiftly and without delay.”
