Castro Statement on Texas Ending Efforts to Purge Voter Rolls
WASHINGTON—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Vice Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and a member of the House Intelligence and Education and Labor Committees, released the following statement today in response to Texas settling lawsuits over botched voter purge efforts across the state:
“The right to vote is a fundamental part of American democracy. The state has been forced to withdraw its discriminatory voter purge, but Texans will not forget this assault on our democratic process. Eligible voters should never have to question their right to cast a ballot. Today marks an important step for our state–and our country–in protecting that sacred right.”
