Castro Statement on House Passage of GOP Tax Bill
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) released the following statement about the GOP tax bill:
“This week, the GOP jammed through a tax bill that provides almost half of the tax cuts to the top 1 percent of earners, actually raises taxes on tens of millions of hard-working middle class families, and dismantles vital deduction benefits used by millions of Americans. The bill would also increase our nation’s debt by at least $1.5 trillion; triggering an automatic $25 billion cut to Medicare, as well as $111 billion in cuts to programs that San Antonians rely on to get ahead, such as student loans.
Americans deserve fiscally responsible tax legislation that protects working families, and encourages economic growth and job creation. Instead, the GOP has crafted a partisan giveaway to the wealthiest among us at the expense of seniors and middle-class families.”
