Castro Statement on Hispanic Heritage Month
WASHINGTON—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and First Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, today issued the following statement marking Hispanic Heritage Month:
“As we mark the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, it’s an opportunity to recognize the history, culture, and achievements of the Latino community. From creativity in the arts and sciences, protecting our freedom and security through military service, growing small businesses that strengthen economic growth, Latinos have made significant contributions to the nation.
“This month is also a time to recognize areas where we can boost opportunities for Latinos by increasing diversity in the workforce, and ensuring access to high quality and affordable healthcare and education. We must push back against intolerant rhetoric from this Administration and the current political climate that allows for it. Most importantly, we must provide a permanent legislative solution for the hundreds of thousands of Dreamers and TPS recipients who continue to live in legal limbo, and fix our broken immigration system. As we celebrate our heritage this month, we strive towards building a better tomorrow filled with equality and opportunity for all.”
