Castro Statement on the Administration’s Decision to Terminate Temporary Protected Status for Hondurans

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and First Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, today released the following statement:

“The decision to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Hondurans living in the United States is yet another example of this Administration’s destructive immigration actions. Choosing to expel 57,000 individuals back to Honduras, including 8,400 from Texas, will rip families apart and threaten personal safety. This decision will also hurt the Honduran families that rely on remittances from the family members in the United States for basic needs. The America I want—and know—is one with opportunities available for one and all. Ending TPS for Hondurans, among other populations, fails to represent who we are as a nation. As we look ahead to other countries with TPS in the United States, I hope there is a course correction.
