Congressman Castro Highlights New Report Showing Texas as the Top State for 2021 Manufacturing Job Growth
Under the Economic Policies Advanced by President Biden and Congressman Castro, the United States Added 375,000 Manufacturing Jobs in 2021.
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) announced Texas added 37,600 manufacturing jobs under the first year of the Biden administration, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This job growth represents a nearly three-fold increase from the final non-pandemic year of the Trump administration, during which Texas added 13,200 manufacturing jobs. Among all 50 states and the District of Columbia, Texas added the most manufacturing jobs in 2021.
“This manufacturing jobs report shows what Texans are already seeing at home; the economic policies that Democrats have passed over the past year are rebuilding our economy and creating opportunity for folks from all walks of life,” said Congressman Castro. “As we emerge from the pandemic, San Antonio’s talented workforce is attracting new employers and bringing good-paying manufacturing jobs back to the United States. Our recovery is far from finished – but this report shows that our job growth is moving in the right direction.”
Last year’s rapid growth of Texas manufacturing jobs was supported by recent legislation Congressman Castro worked to pass, including the American Rescue Plan and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. In the coming weeks, Congressman Castro will continue to help Texas create even more jobs by pushing for Senate passage of the America COMPETES Act, which will invest in the U.S. supply chain and encourage domestic production.
The America COMPETES Act includes several provisions authored by Congressman Castro that focus on job creation including the Strengthening Youth Apprenticeships Act, which will support and expand domestic youth apprenticeship opportunities, and an amendment to the National Apprenticeship Act to expand apprenticeship opportunities in the media and entertainment industries.
