Serving San Antonio
Congressman Joaquin Castro is proud to represent his hometown of San Antonio in the U.S. House of Representatives. His respect for public service developed at a young age and was deeply influenced by his parents’ involvement in political movements and civic causes. His father, a retired teacher, and his mother, a renowned community activist, instilled in him a deep appreciation for the democratic process and the importance of serving one’s community.
After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, Joaquin earned degrees from Stanford University and Harvard Law School before returning to San Antonio to join a private law practice. He served five terms in the Texas Legislature before he was elected to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. In Congress, his work focuses on building out what he calls the "Infrastructure of Opportunity" - the great public schools and universities, sound health care system, and good jobs that allow Americans to pursue their dreams.
