Floor Speech: Sexual Assault In The Military
Texas Congressman Joaquin Castro [TX-20] successfully included language in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2014 that directs the Comptroller General of the United States to provide a status report on the implementation of the 46 recommendations by the Air Force in the wake of mass revelations of sexual assault incidents at Lackland Air Force Base. The Comptroller General is also directed to gauge the effectiveness of the recommendations already implemented, as well as to conduct an assessment of best practices from all of the military service branches that can be shared to prevent sexual misconduct at basic and technical training. The progress report is expected to be submitted to Congress by April 1, 2014 to ensure that Congress can make informed decisions about basic military training sexual assault prevention practices in a timely fashion. http://castro.house.gov/
