Tenth Episode of “Diplomatic Cable” features 27-year Civil Servant, former Under Secretary for Political Affairs Nick Burns for a Discussion of Incoherent Foreign Policy under Trump
WASHINGTON—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and First Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, released a special edition joint Diplomatic Cable episode with Harvard University’s Future of Diplomacy Project on the direction of foreign policy under President Trump. The episode features former Under Secretary for Political Affairs Nick Burns, where they cover issues spanning from immigration, refugee quotas, trade deals, and the overall effects of the budget cuts to U.S. diplomacy and development. This will be played jointly on Harvard University Kennedy School Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs Conversations in Diplomacy podcast hosted by Amb. Burns.

Grant Will Help Advance VIA’s Efforts to Grow, Service VIAtrans fleet
SAN ANTONIO—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and First Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, today joined other leaders of the San Antonio community in welcoming a $6 million U.S. Department of Transportation Buses and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Program grant for VIA Metropolitan Transit. The grant will be used to help construct a standalone operating and maintenance facility to house VIA’s paratransit vehicles. Currently, VIA’s bus and van operating and maintenance facility is located at one site. VIA has the distinction of being the largest transit agency in the United States to operate both bus and paratransit fleets out of one single yard.

Requests Information on Midnight Relocations, Government Plans for Opening Other Temporary Shelters
WASHINGTON—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and First Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, asked the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services about reports that children are being moved in the middle of night from foster homes to live in West Texas tent camps. In a letter to HHS Secretary Alex Azar, Congressman Castro asked for a written answers to questions regarding the number of children that had been separated from their families, government plans for opening other temporary shelters, and child protections, among other lines of inquiry.

Price (D-NC), Peter Welch (D-VT), and Adam Smith (D-WA), the Members called on United States State Department Secretary Mike Pompeo to reinstate United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) funding and to reprogram bilateral foreign aid away from the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem.
