Statement from Congressman Castro on Governor Abbott’s Obstruction of Federal Immigration Enforcement in Eagle Pass, TX
WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) released the following statement in response to multiple reports that Texas state officials are blocking U.S. Border Patrol agents from conducting their duties and enforcing U.S. immigration law along the banks of the Rio Grande River in Eagle Pass, Texas:
“This is unprecedented interference by a governor and state government in federal immigration enforcement. Governor Abbott is interfering with Border Patrol’s ability to do its job and his actions are making the situation at the border worse.
Governor Abbott’s political stunts are disrupting the lives of American citizens and small business owners in Eagle Pass, and there is no evidence that Operation Lone Star has made any meaningful impact on migration at all.”
In August 2023, Congressman Castro led a congressional delegation to Eagle Pass, Texas to meet with community members and local elected officials and receive briefings from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
