Congressman Castro Votes Against Republican Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 6126, the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act:
“For weeks, I have called for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas to protect more innocent people from becoming victims of this conflict. As the death toll continues to rise, the United States must play an active role in rescuing hostages, supplying humanitarian aid to Gaza, and saving lives.
“The world is looking to us for moral leadership. We must continue to condemn the horrific terror attacks carried out by Hamas against Israel, and we must also speak out for the innocent civilians who are suffering in Gaza and Israel.
“Instead of working to advance bipartisan legislation that includes humanitarian aid for Gaza and Israel, Republican leaders packed this bill with tax giveaways for billionaires that have nothing to do with the current conflict. This war has already shattered millions of lives and this is no time for political games.”
