Congressman Castro Statement on President Biden’s Summit with South Korean President Moon

WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Joaquin Castro (TX-20) released the following statement on President Biden’s Summit with South Korean President Moon:

“I commend President Biden for hosting South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the White House. Today’s summit is a strong demonstration of the importance of the U.S.-Korea alliance, the linchpin of security and stability in the Indo-Pacific.

“Americans and South Koreans are united by our shared democratic values, deep economic ties, and a long-standing alliance that goes back two generations. Nearly two million Americans of Korean descent call the U.S. home and actively participate in civic engagement, including organizations such as the Korean American Grassroots Conference, and are key to bridging our nation with the Republic of Korea.

“Our relationship with South Korea supports core United States interests, including nuclear nonproliferation, COVID-19, climate change, technology, and much more. Most immediately, we must work together to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic and stand united in the face of North Korea’s growing nuclear and missile capabilities.

“The United States and South Korea are global technological leaders, and I am highly encouraged that both Presidents are committed to expanding cooperation in this area. I welcome the significant investments that South Korean companies are making in U.S. technology and manufacturing industries, including in Texas.”
