Congressman Castro Applauds Message of American Unity and Strength in President Biden’s 2022 State of the Union Address

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) released the following statement after the conclusion of President Biden’s State of the Union address:

“Thirteen months ago, President Biden took the helm of a nation devastated by pandemic, economic catastrophe, and insurrection. Today, our future is unimaginably brighter.

Thanks to the work of this administration and the Democratic Congress, the United States is achieving a historically strong economic recovery that puts working people and families first. In Texas, we see these results clearly in the new jobs created and the billions of dollars in federal investments that have flowed to our schools, health centers, and so much more. With the success of the American Rescue Plan and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, we are on track to rebuild the Infrastructure of Opportunity for this generation and the next.

“There is no question that our country faces real challenges ahead. In my city of San Antonio and across the country, families are still struggling with rising costs, and we continue to grieve the deep toll of the pandemic. Millions of our veterans are still struggling to get the benefits they deserve, and our failure to pass comprehensive immigration reform is unacceptable. In Texas especially, Americans are facing new attacks on sacred rights. But the success of the last year have shown that Americans do not need to choose between growth, tolerance, and freedom. As Congress executes the economic agenda President Biden announced tonight, we will strengthen the American Dream, lower costs, and build a pathway to prosperity for all people.

“Over the last week, the United States has shown a renewed ability to unite our fellow nations around a common cause. Casting aside the isolation of the Trump years, our nation has retaken its rightful place as the leader of the free world. America is rising anew – and the state of our union is strong.
