Congressman Castro Announces Winners of 2022 Congressional Art Competition

SAN ANTONIO – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) announced Hogai Qasmi, Victoria Treviño, and Chloe Phan as the winners of the 2022 Congressional Art Competition for Texas’s 20th District. The first place artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, and the second and third place pieces will be displayed in Congressman Castro’s San Antonio office.

This year’s competition received 56 entries from high school students throughout Texas’s 20th Congressional District. Entries were reviewed by Suzy González, Adrian De La Cruz, and Mauro Murillo, local artists in San Antonio.

The winning entries include: 

1st Place - Hogai Qasmi, Louis D. Brandeis High School (11th Grade)

 

“Home (Koor)” depicts a place from Qasmi’s childhood. Every element, including the teapot, four trees, pool, and chair is a piece of the artist’s childhood and home. Acrylic.

 

2nd Place - Victoria Treviño, International School of the Americas (12th Grade)

“A Tribute to Her” is one of many floral portraits within Treviño’s series, which celebrates women and various forms of beauty. Mixed media.

 

3rd Place - Chloe Phan, John Marshall High School (11th Grade)

“The Mask” depicts a beautiful girl faking a smile to hide her insecurities. Charcoal.
