Congressman Castro Announces Over $7 Million in San Antonio Community Projects Passed the U.S. House of Representatives
WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) announced over $7.1 million in federal funding for several key community projects in San Antonio passed the U.S House of Representatives. Congressman Castro voted for the minibus package, H.R. 4502, consisting of seven FY2022 appropriations bills.
“Today, the House took a critical step today to ensure that we invest in San Antonio families and support working families across the United States,” said Congressman Castro. “I worked with local organizations in submitting community projects for federal funding to help San Antonio families bounce back from COVID and start to build a better future. I’m thrilled at the passage of this funding because we are one step closer to providing the necessary resources for initiatives that will directly benefit the people of San Antonio. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to take up this legislation and help deliver a historic investment for millions of Americans.”
Congressman Castro secured funding for these San Antonio community projects:
- $2,000,000 for City of San Antonio’s Equity-based Home Repair program
- $1,000,000 for San Antonio Housing Authority to expand WiFi to all public housing
- $1,000,000 for Project QUEST to conduct a workforce training initiative
- $894,881 for VIA’s Wayfinder Technology to help people with disabilities
- $875,000 for St. Mary’s University’s Family Life Center Renovation project
- $500,000 for SAWS’ Weatherization of Critical Infrastructure project
- $500,000 for Communities in Schools-San Antonio to increase social workers presence in SAISD schools
- $300,000 for University Health System for expanding telemedicine capabilities at home
- $95,000 for Alamo Colleges District to provide lab equipment at Westside Training Center
