Castro Statement on Trump’s New Rule That Undermines Health Care for Americans

WASHINGTON—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and First Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, today made the following statement:

“Today, the Trump Administration finalized a rule that enables employers to bypass consumer protections despite warnings from advocates, healthcare providers and insurers and deny coverage for those with any preexisting conditions such as asthma, alcohol or drug abuse with recent treatment, and cancer. This is yet another example of Republicans relentless assault on healthcare for Americans and their attempt to revive one of Trumpcare’s worst provisions that would surge health care costs and dismantle protections for those most in need.

“After failing legislatively, the Administration and Republicans in Congress are now tearing the Affordable Care Act apart through executive orders wreaking havoc on the millions of Americans who benefit from the law. Americans deserve better, and I will join my colleagues in standing up for the Affordable Care Act despite these attacks.”
