Castro Statement on Resignation of National Security Advisor Michael Flynn

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement after the resignation of National Security Advisor Michael Flynn:

“General Flynn’s resignation is a step in the right direction, but many questions remain. Who associated with the Trump Administration knew the details of Flynn’s conversations with Russian officials, and when did they know them? After the Department of Justice warned the Trump transition team that Flynn was vulnerable to Russian blackmail, why did the President take the risk of appointing him to such a sensitive, influential position in the White House? If media reports had not exposed the nature of General Flynn’s call with Russia, would he still be the President’s National Security Advisor today?

“Investigations must take place to determine how severely this administration has compromised our nation’s security. Congress and the American people deserve to know the full extent of Russia’s ties with the White House and involvement in the 2016 election.”
