Castro Statement on Release of Three American Citizens Detained in North Korea
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, today released the following statement:
“I am glad that Tony Kim, Kim Hak-Song, and Kim Dong-Chul will be returning home to the United States and to their families after being held hostage by North Korea. I commend President Trump and Secretary Pompeo for this very positive development and the announcement that denuclearization negotiations now have a date and place set.
“As we move towards this high-stakes U.S.-North Korea summit, I call on the Administration to immediately brief members of Congress on the details of this planned meeting, including objectives, how success will be defined, and diplomatic strategy. Let’s also remember that we have gotten to this point with North Korea before and things fell apart. I hope this time will be different and that a new era of peace on the Korean Peninsula can begin.”
