Castro Statement on President Trump’s Withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement

San Antonio, TX – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) issued the following statement after President Donald Trump announced his decision to withdraw the United States from participation in the Paris Climate Accord:

“Leaving the Paris Agreement is an abandonment of U.S. global leadership. With the President’s decision today, the United States joins Syria and Nicaragua as one of only three nations in the world not to participate in the deal. Already, we have seen how the effects of climate change harm the health of our most vulnerable populations and threaten our national security. Rather than lead the international community to confront these challenges, President Trump has decided to open the door for other nations to assume the influence and leadership the United States will now forfeit.”
