Castro Statement on Passage of GOP Short Term Spending Bill

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) released the following statement after voting against the GOP short term spending bill:

“The Republican’s sole focus on their reckless tax bill has resulted in Congress passing a third short term spending bill instead of passing a full-year funding bill. This bill abandons Dreamers, lacks a multiyear CHIP reauthorization, and fails to meet the obligations Congress is entrusted with.

The disaster supplemental for Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and California is inadequate. Texas requested an additional $61 billion to help Texans rebuild and recover from Hurricane Harvey, yet Texas may only have access to around $12 billion of the $81 billion provided for all of these devastating events.

Congress is leaving important work for the New Year. I hope we can do better and achieve bipartisan solutions to address these issues in January.”
