Castro Statement on U.S.-Japan Resolution Approval by HFAC
WASHINGTON—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Vice Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, member of the House Intelligence and Education and Labor Committees, and co-chair of the U.S.-Japan Caucus, today released the following statement after the House Foreign Affairs Committee approved the resolution H.Res.349, which reaffirms the vital role of the United States-Japan alliance in promoting stability and economic development in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. The resolution was first introduced in May:
“For more than 70 years, the partnership between the United States and Japan has played a vital role in ensuring peace and prosperity in Asia and beyond. The U.S. and Japan are deeply committed to the common values of freedom, democracy and the rule of law.
“As co-chair of the U.S.-Japan Caucus, I’ve seen firsthand how indispensable this partnership is in promoting human rights and democracy, combating the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, improving global health, countering human trafficking, and assisting the victims of conflict and disaster worldwide.
“This alliance is testament to the ability of great nations to overcome the past, and jointly work to create a more secure and prosperous future. My resolution aims to reinforce our commitment to this invaluable friendship, and once again highlight the significance of this partnership in addressing all the world’s challenges.”
