Castro Statement on Passing of San Antonio’s Own SFC Javier J. Gutierrez

WASHINGTON—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Vice Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, and member of the House Intelligence and Education and Labor Committees, today released the following statement after the passing of Sergeant First Class and San Antonio native Javier J. Gutierrez from wounds sustained during combat operations in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan.

“Sergeant First Class Javier Gutierrez was an American hero and his passing comes at a great cost to San Antonio and the entire country. His commitment to service and profound accomplishments are only matched by the humility and bravery he exhibited throughout his life as a son, father, husband, and friend. A highly decorated sergeant, Javier epitomized the very best of what this country stands for. San Antonio mourns this tremendous loss with his family and fellow servicemembers. His memory will live on in the community and country that he so fiercely loved.”
