CASTRO STATEMENT ON IRAN FRAMEWORK

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement after a framework to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon was announced.

“I welcome the preliminary framework agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear program the United States and our international partners have achieved. This is a positive step towards cutting off Iran’s pathway to a nuclear weapon and an arms race in the Middle East. I voted for legislation that enacted sanctions which brought Iran to the negotiating table. These sanctions will continue to remain in place until a final deal is agreed to and implemented. Critical work remains to negotiate a final deal that is comprehensive and verifies that Iran fully follows through on its commitments. I look forward to congressional consultation from the administration on the specifics of this agreement.”
