CASTRO STATEMENT ON NORTH KOREA'S NUCLEAR TEST

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement regarding North Korea’s fifth nuclear test explosion:

“I strongly and unequivocally condemn North Korea’s nuclear test and Pyongyang’s ill-advised and relentless hostility. Yet again, the North Korean regime has ignored United Nations security resolutions in carrying out its second nuclear test in less than a year.

“Just this week, the House of Representatives passed a resolution reiterating its unwavering support for our allies Japan and South Korea in the face of the North Korean threat. Our nations’ trilateral partnership for peace will not falter, nor will it tolerate North Korea’s repeated violations and aggression.

“News of today’s test received widespread condemnation from the international community, including from North Korea’s immediate neighbors. I am hopeful that all nations take this opportunity to ensure the strongest possible enforcement of their sanctions against the North Korean regime. Our unity on this dire matter is critically importance for the stability and security of the region and wider world.”
