Castro Statement on Mueller’s Indictments in Russia Investigation

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, today made the following statement:

“I’m encouraged to see Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s indictments today against 13 Russian nationals and three Russian entities for illegally influencing the 2016 presidential election. This is the exact reason FBI Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller in the first place, and I am glad to see justice served to the American people by calling these acts what they are–conspiracy to defraud the United States and boost Donald Trump’s candidacy.

“It’s critical Mueller continue investing collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia to get more of these long overdue answers to our country. Mueller and the House Committee’s investigation into Russia’s 2016 election interference must continue to move forward without any obstruction by the President or his protectors in Congress. This is the only way we can adequately protect our democracy and defend our upcoming elections from foreign interference.”
