Castro Statement on Iran Deal Withdrawal
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, today released the following statement:
“The President’s withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and imposition of sanctions incentivizes Iran to develop a nuclear weapon as soon as possible. While the President certified Iran’s compliance twice, withdrawal from the agreement severely damages critical relationships with our allies, isolates America abroad, and jeopardizes U.S. credibility as we head towards high-stakes denuclearization negotiations with Pyongyang.
“Under President Trump, the United States continues to be a source of unpredictability rather than consistency. By withdrawing from the JCPOA today, President Trump has made our nation, the Middle East, and our world less safe.”
