Castro Statement on Firing of FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, this evening released the following statement:

"The allegations against FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe are serious. But without the full Inspector General report, it’s impossible to judge Attorney General Jeff Session’s seemingly harsh decision to fire him. What’s most concerning is just days before, President Trump urged the Justice Department to deprive McCabe of his pension despite 21 years of service. For McCabe’s end to be brought about under what appears to be President Trump’s political antics is a sad statement on the institutional independence of the Justice Department. The President is purging the highest levels of government of anyone who isn't subservient and obsequious, leading our nation down a dark path."
