Castro Statement on DNI Director Concerns of Russia Interference in Midterms
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, today made the following statement after Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats’s comments that Russia will likely interfere in our 2018 midterm elections:
“President Trump’s Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats said today that Russia is set to meddle in our midterm elections this November, marking another senior advisor in Trump’s inner circle to sound the alarm bells. But the Administration continues to ignore the will of Congress, failing to deter foreign interference that we know is coming and protect our democracy. We know Russia worked to help get Trump elected and that Trump’s inaction fits well within the Kremlin’s political objectives. So, our Republican leaders in Congress must either protect our democracy, instead of our President, or accept that Russia will interfere again in the coming months. What do you want from your elected officials?”
