Castro Statement on Black History Month

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), First Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, released the following statement today marking Black History Month:

“Each February, Americans mark the birth month of President Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas. But we also come together to pay tribute to the contributions made by the African American community to our great nation. Their legacy of courage and lasting commitment to freedom and equality for all continues to move our country closer to fulfilling our own American dream.

“In the United States, all our histories make up the American story. So, I’m proud to celebrate that fact today and every day, and recommit to working across party lines to ensure all our citizens—in every community—have an equal shot to pursue their own dreams and opportunities. That is what will build a stronger, and brighter, America for all.”
