Castro Statement on Administration’s Consideration of Texas Tent Cities for Immigrant Children

WASHINGTON—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and First Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, today made the following statement:

“Separating immigrant children from their families is a cruel and inhumane tactic that the Trump Administration employs to punish asylum seekers. An even more cruel and inhumane policy is housing these children, without their parents, in tents across Texas where they will suffer from severe physical, emotional and mental distress. Our moral compass has gone astray and I will continue to speak out against this injustice until the Administration realizes this is not who we should be as Americans.”
