Castro Introduces Hispanic Caucus Resolution to Support Young Children in America
Measure Recognizes April 30 at “El Día de Los Niños”
Washington, D.C.—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), First Vice Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, introduced a resolution with other Hispanic Caucus members honoring the importance and value of children in the United States and marking April 30, 2018 as “El Día de Los Niños—Celebrating Young Americans.”
“The United States’ Hispanic population represents the youngest and largest ethnic minority group, driving economic prosperity as workers, consumers, taxpayers, and voters. But children, no matter their ethnic or religious affiliation, represent the hopes and dreams of the American people. This resolution establishes a day devoted to celebrating our nation’s youth, and acknowledges the traditions and customs of all people residing in the U.S. regardless of their race or ethnicity. This resolution also serves as a reminder that we are fighting for comprehensive immigration reform on behalf of the approximately 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the shadows—many of whom will go on to do great things for this nation. With this resolution, it is my hope that we can continue to uplift and help children—black, white, brown, and so on—to positively envision a path to pursuing their version of the American dream.”
The measure was co-sponsored by Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairwoman Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01); Rep. Grace F. Napolitano (CA-32); Rep. J. Luis Correa (CA-46); Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (AZ-03); Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13); Rep. Darren Soto (FL-09); Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (CA-38); and Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán (CA-44).
