CASTRO, GALLEGO ANNOUNCE SAN ANTONIO PREFERED LOCATION FOR AIRFORCE TRAINING SCHOOL
Washington, D.C-- Congressmen Joaquin Castro and Pete Gallego today announced that the United States Air Force has indicated Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland is the preferred and reasonable host for the relocation of the Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) and the Air Liaison Officer (ALO) training school. The Air Force will finalize its decisions in Fall of 2013 pending an environmental impact study. The training school is projected to be fully operational by November of 2014. TACPs and ALOs go through a nearly 30-week training course that includes combat survival skills and special tactics.
“Military families are an integral part of San Antonio and I am pleased the Air Force is seriously considering the city as a home to their expanding military training school,” said Congressman Castro. “As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I’ll continue to be a strong ally and tireless advocate for our military service men and women.”
“This training is necessary to meet the changing needs of our military, and I'm glad that it is happening here in San Antonio," said Congressman Gallego. "This training school benefits our military families and serves as an economic boon to the city. Congressman Castro and I will always advocate on behalf of our military families and the districts we serve."
Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland was chosen among 158 Air Force and Army installations as a finalist for the TACP and ALO training school. In 2011, the Air Force announced it would be searching for a new host to train TACPs and ALOs to meet the military's growing need.
