Castro Announces $5 Million Award to Southwest Research Institute

San Antonio, TX—Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, today released the following statement after the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) awarded nearly $5 million to the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) located in San Antonio, TX:

“As technology in nuclear energy continues to advance, SwRI’s work will help us create policies and regulations for nuclear reactor and materials safety that are also friendly towards the environment. This new funding allows SwRI to embark on new, promising research that exemplifies San Antonio’s leadership in the field of advanced sciences and applied technologies.”
