Affordable Connectivity Kickoff - June 1, 2022
During the pandemic, we’ve all seen how critical internet access is — for school, for work, and for staying connected with the outside world. Most families don’t need a landline any more, but they do need high-speed internet at an affordable cost.
Last November, I worked across the aisle to pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, a landmark law to create jobs and strengthen our nation’s future. As part of the law, Congress established the Affordable Connectivity Program, which provides a $30/month discount on high-speed internet services for qualifying families.
On Wednesday, June 1 from 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM, I will be hosting a free event at Dwight Middle School (2454 W Southcross Blvd, San Antonio, Texas) to help San Antonians enroll in the Affordable Connectivity program. The chairwoman of the Federal Communications Commission, Jessica Rosenworcel, will be joining the event as a special guest and featured speaker. If your family would benefit from a discount on your internet service, I hope we’ll see you there.
What is the Affordable Connectivity Program?
The Affordable Connectivity Program provides a $30/month discount on internet plans to qualifying households. The program also provides a one-time, $100 discount to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers. The program discount can be applied to existing internet subscriptions and some cell phone data plans may also be eligible.
Wondering if you qualify for the Affordable Connectivity Program?
Your household is eligible for the Affordable Connectivity Program if you are at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, or if a member of your household receives SNAP/WIC, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), veterans’ pensions or survivor benefits, free or reduced-price school meals, or Lifeline.
