CASTRO HONORS WORLD WAR II VETERAN WITH MEDAL PRESENTATION

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) today presented World War II veteran and San Antonio resident Paul Garcia with five medals to honor his military service. Rep. Castro awarded Mr. Garcia the World War II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Honorable Service Lapel Button, and the Honorable Discharge Lapel Pin. 

“Mr. Garcia is an example of the best San Antonio, and America, has to offer,” said Rep. Castro. “His willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice for the wellbeing of people around the world deserves our deepest gratitude and respect. For his courage, his selflessness, and his tremendous patriotism, it is my honor to award Mr. Garcia these distinguished medals.” 

Joining the Navy at the young age of 17, Mr. Garcia bravely served his country in the Pacific Theater. He was part of the liberation of the Philippine Islands and also spent three months stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Mr. Garcia was born in San Antonio and continues to live in the city, as do his children, grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
