I was glad that some South San High School South San Antonio ISD students stopped by my office in Washington! It was great to see folks from home.
The keys to succeeding academically and athletically are the same: in both sports and school it’s important to know the fundamentals well, work hard to overcome challenges, and build a foundation of learning as early in life as possible.
I met with the Envision Junior National Young Leaders Conference, a group of middle schoolers from across the country who are in Washington to learn about our nation’s government and history. I always remind young people that soon their generation will be leading our nation, and encourage them to believe in themselves and in their ability to help others.
Thanks to the Austin Chamber of Commerce for coming to Capitol Hill and advocating for issues that matter to Central Texas. I’m glad I had the opportunity to speak with folks about energy, transportation, education, and immigration reform – areas central to our state’s future economic growth.

I met with Singapore’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vivian Balakrishnan. We had a productive discussion about the U.S.-Singapore relationship, conditions in the South China Sea, and the growing role of ASEAN nations in the world.
