Visit to Vietnam with President Obama
While in Vietnam, Senator Tom Carper (a Vietnam veteran himself), Congressman Beto O'Rourke, and I honored the brave Americans who served in the conflict there. In Hanoi, we paid our respects to the prisoners of war, like Senator John McCain, who were held captive at the Hỏa Lò Prison. The day after our tour of the “Hanoi Hilton,” we visited the American Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City. We met with U.S. Ambassador Ted Osius and laid an American flag at the site where the last two Marines to lose their lives in the Vietnam War were killed. These were some of the most powerful moments of my time in Vietnam.
